Safe & Productive Streets

A busy outdoor dining area on a city street with people sitting at tables, some standing, and trees providing shade. There are string lights, a large building in the background, and a bright sunny sky.

Poor street design is the primary cause of automobile crashes, injuries, and death on our streets. We must build (and rebuild) streets that are dominated by people, and which accommodate cars as a secondary user.

A bus stop with a blue canopy, a pay station, and a blue emergency phone next to a sidewalk on a street. Trees with autumn foliage are in the background.

Street use to belong to people! They were a common gather areas that facilitated commerce, movement and socialization! Streets still can provide all of those again, when constructed with people in mind as the real users of the space, not just motorized traffic.
